Surrogacy gives you the opportunity to have a baby when nature does not allow it. For many mothers, it’s a dream come true, but that’s not an easy process.

Perhaps you’re thinking about becoming a surrogate mother (altruistic or for profit), which also involves challenges and is very different from any other pregnancy process.

Two mothers, gestational and other biological, shared their experience with pregnancy and childbirth and can see the full text on our exclusive interview Surrogate Motherhood: experience gestational mother and biological mother.

What challenges have had to be biological mother but not charge your pregnancy?

Do not carry the pregnancy makes a big difference, because I do not have the baby all the time. When you’re pregnant you can complain, but do not appreciate that you have nine months to establish a relationship with your baby, your heart will beat to the rhythm of your baby, that closeness. In this case, you have nothing of that.

I also hard to think that when I talk to my baby there is always someone listening. In a way, I describe me as the husband in this situation, because I go to medical appointments, I talk to the baby from the outside. And it is a challenge to have a newborn without preparation of pregnancy and the help of hormones baby.

How surrogate mother, pregnancy was this different from previous ones?

The biggest difference is that I have the knowledge that the baby is not mine. When you’re pregnant with your own babies you start to plan everything from the moment you have the results of your pregnancy test.

What would you say to other women who are considering becoming gestational mothers?

If you love pregnancy and motherhood and want to have that experience, you better have your own children.

If you want a completely different experience, which coincidentally involves pregnancy and childbirth, it is worth considering surrogacy. However, you should know that when you carry a baby for someone else, is not just your pregnancy. If you are prepared to share the experience with the mother, it may be a single, very beautiful, meaningful and entirely different from the experience emotionally. It fills you up, but it’s hard.
